Bibaldi is a Spanish learning platform designed to help you master Spanish conjugation and improve your language skills through interactive drills and engaging stories.

How I built this

I'm a one person team, so I'm doing everything myself. Bibaldi is a passion project intially designed to help me practice my Spanish, in a way I believe is effective. The key differentiator is using real sentences, actual conversations and context.

The Mission

I believe that learning any language requires plenty of practice and repetition, as well as context learning. While there are plenty of great tools out there, most of them require you to sign up and create an account, gather your personal data, and try to upsell you on their paid plans. Bibaldi bypasses these issues by being free, ad-free, and available on all devices, just using your browser.

How It Works

Choose from a selection of drills to practice specific verb tenses, or dive into the stories to see Spanish in context. Each story includes interactive elements to test your comprehension and reinforce learning. Some of the stories are adapted from legends or public domain stories, some are written personally by me, and some are transcripts from interviews. Where appropriate, the source is linked.

I tried to have a good variety of contexts, with a healthy amount of slang and common expressions. The language may cover Latin American Spanish but is largely focused on mainland Spanish.

The Philosophy

An app can only allow you to study and practice, but it is not a shortcut to actually learning a language. This is why there are no arbitrary streaks, levels, or gold stars. It takes work and real-world practice. Bibladi won't do everything, and you will still need to research vocabulary and expressions (basically study!), but I hope that with Bibaldi, you can practice.

Data and Privacy

Bibaldi doesn't track any personal data. For basic analytics, I use GoatCounter, an open source project that respects your privacy and doesn't collect personal information. No cookies, no tracking scripts, no data mining.
